Samui Summer Jazz kicks off on September 13, 2024, with an enchanting opening night at Six Senses Koh Samui. The evening will feature the Alexander Beets Quintet, accompanied by the captivating Fleurine, delivering an exhilarating performance of Brazilian Vibes. Join us for a night of vibrant rhythms and soulful melodies in a stunning seaside setting.

On September 14, 2024, Samui Summer Jazz presents “Jazz under the Stars” at Sala Chaweng. Enjoy a magical evening with the soulful sounds of Baer Traa, featuring the renowned Koh Mr Saxman. We are also thrilled to introduce an exceptional endorsed talent, the young upcoming star Charlie Philips on trumpet. Experience an unforgettable night of jazz in an elegant open-air setting.

Charlie Philips (2003) is a young trumpet player based in Amsterdam. Charlie’s love for the trumpet started at the age of seven, when she joined the local windband. Throughout highschool she fell in love with jazz music. After graduating, she decided to pursue the Jazz Bachelor of the Conservatory of Amsterdam, where she is currently studying with her heroes Jarmo Hoogendijk, Jan Wessels and Ruud Breuls. Next to leading her own projects, Charlie has been actively involved in the Dutch music scene over the past years. Among others, she has participated in the Jong Metropole Orchestra and the Dutch National Young Jazz Orchestra. Additionally, she has performed twice as a soloist with the Jazz Orchestra of the Concertgebouw.

On September 15, 2024, Samui Summer Jazz culminates with a spectacular Grande Finale at W Koh Samui. The night features Alexander Beets & Friends, showcasing a blend of talented local musicians and internationally acclaimed artists. Among the standout performers is the world-famous bass player from Sicily, the great Fabio Iannino. Join us for an extraordinary concert of jazz mastery, celebrating the festival’s vibrant conclusion in style.

About Tom van der Zaal

Tom van der Zaal is an award winning saxophonist and composer from The Netherlands. His frequent appearance on international venues makes him one of Hollands most visable young and upcoming artist. Tom released his debut album ”Introducing Tom van der Zaal – Time Will Tell” featuring the immaculate New York guitarist Peter Bernstein in 2019. Quotes from leading magazines are:

Currently working on his newest album ´Sketchbook of Dreams´ which is a cross-over influeced by jazz, classical and Brazilian music. The project featurs a 16 piece orchestra and is a distinct musical journey wuth cinematic features without losing the identity of the Dutch saxophonist. The music on this album has the power to create expression in such extend, it almost becomes visual.
